Lillehammer, Norway

We took the train to Lillehammer this morning.  We had time here to visit the Olympic Museum and the Open Air Museum.
Old houses have been brought here from around Norway for the great museum, filled with old houses, lakes and artifacts.

Hurtigruten Cruise

Today is the cruise up the coast day.  From Alesund we went up another fjord.  There were more waterfalls than you could count.  It was just beautiful.
This was the town at the end of the fjord.  It is quite a summer resort.

The view out the back of the ship.
Typical waterfall but we hear that they had a dry season??????

Bergen to Hurtigruten cruise

This morning we took the cog train to the top of the mountain outside of Bergen.  Here is a view from the top.  Then we hiked down to the town and packed up for our two night cruise on the Hurtigruten ship up the coast.

Bergen

Today we were on our own in Bergen.  Lots to see.  This is the fortress.  The hall here is the oldest non church building in Bergen built in the 1200's.  It was partially destroyed when a German ship exploded in the harbor during WW2.  It has been restored to it's origianl condition.
All of the buildings were built of wood.  This is the Bryggen section of town where the German's had the trading warehouses.  It has burned many times   It is had to tell how old this last restoration is but the buildings are all leaning and very old..
Typical of Bergen housings today.

Norway in a Nutshell

We left Geilo on the trail and headed over the pass that was filled with snow on our way to Myrdal.
The next train to Flam stopped at this amazing waterfall.
The next adventure was a boat ride in the fjord.  This was one of about 100 waterfalls
 This is a beautiful waterway.
 Another beautiful waterfall.
The next adventure was a bus ride to Voss where we caught a train to Bergen.  This is the buss following ours.  This is a 18% grade, the steepest road in Norway with many twists and turns.
