Mackinac Island & Isle Royale

Andy and I and our friends Pam & Dillis had a great trip to Michigan this month. We started out on Mackinac Island for the end of the lilac festival. They have had a hard winter and the lilacs only came into full bloom while we were there. They were beautiful. The island is historic and no motor vechicles are allowed. Everyone gets around on foot, bicycle or horse drawn carriage. We were lucky to have the best weather they had had all year. We rode our bike all around the island and saw some beautiful sights.

As long as we were going to be in upper Michigan, we decided to visit Isle Royale National Park. Lake Superior is incredible. It is so large that you feel like you are on the ocean. The ferry ride from Copper Harbor takes 3 plus hours to get there. It is the least visited National Park in the country and totally remote and uninhabited most of the year except for the moose and the wolves. It is a beautiful spot, inland waterways and small islands. A backpackers paradise. We stayed at the Rock Harbor Lodge right on the water and hiked and went canoeing.

Lake Powell Adventures

Friends and relatives have asked us to create a blog so that they can keep up with our crazy life, so here we go. In May we spent a week at Lake Powell. Just the two of us and Reilly. We had a wonderful time just relaxing, kayaking and hiking. The level of the lake is coming up while they lower Lake Mead. We had great weather except for the rain the day we left.
